Ecosia is a search engine and Chromium based browser for Android mobile devices. This app is a part of an eco friendly initiative that spends most of its income on planting trees.
Restoring forests
This application is a modern browser with all necessary features like tabs, bookmarks, history, private mode and others. Similarly to Microsoft Edge, it is based on the free open source engine Chromium developed by Google. Therefore, it is a fast and stable product.
Unlike many other browsers, Ecosia does not store any user information. For example, it does not save search queries nor tracks websites you visit. Additionally, they do not sell data to third parties. Instead, the company makes money solely from ads.
However, Ecosia positions itself as a nonprofit organization. They spend at least 80 percent of their income on reforestation. To make things transparent, the company regularly posts detailed financial reports. Their ecological projects are located in Africa, Oceania as well as Central and South Americas. Furthermore, all the servers that support the work of the Ecosia search engine are only powered by solar energy.
