LetMeTalk is an Android application for augmentative and alternative communication or AAC. This utility is intended for people who have difficulties with speech due to various reasons, such as autism, aphasia, cerebral palsy, or ALS. It is possible to use an alternative way of conversation.
Purpose
The utility is suitable for anyone who has difficulties with language or speech, such as people with:
- autism spectrum disorder or Asperger syndrome;
- speech apraxia;
- aphasia;
- articulation or phonological disorders;
- amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or motor neuron disease;
- cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, or other genetic or neurological disorders;
- hearing impairment or deafness who use sign language or lip reading.
How it works
This app enables users to line up various images in a meaningful way to form sentences. Then the utility reads the phrases aloud using text-to-speech technology. The image database of LetMeTalk contains more than 9000 easy-to-understand images from ARASAAC, a free and open-source pictographic resource.
Users can add their own images from the device gallery or take new photos with the camera. It is possible to navigate through different categories of pictures, such as actions, animals, emotions, food, places, etc. There is an opportunity to switch between different languages and use LetMeTalk as a translator.
