MarineTraffic is an application for Android devices that displays the movement of marine vessels in real time. The utility monitors most known ports and routes by communicating with a network of AIS receivers.
Vessel search
The utility offers a search window that allows you to find ships by determining their position on the map in real time. Tracked vessels can be grouped in a separate tab to receive constant notifications about their movements.
In addition, you may view global marine traffic on a common map. This is possible with the AIS system, which receives notifications about the location of more than 100 000 vessels per day.
The map displays not only the movement of ships but also wind speed. The utility provides a weather forecast, as well as the strength and direction of air masses movement for 48 hours. All this information is displayed on an animated map online. To get access to this data you need to have a premium account.
Additionally
The application allows you to view photographs of ports and ships, as well as identify vessels with the camera of your mobile device. AI analyzes the images and applies augmented reality elements. This option is included via the premium subscription.
Moreover, it is possible to calculate the estimated time of ships’ arrival at harbors and ports. Also, you can monitor the situation there.
