MyDesmond is an Android app that provides access to self-management diabetes education programs, developed by the Leicester Diabetes Centre. This platform supports people in managing their health.
Programs
The utility offers five programs, each tailored to the different needs of people with diabetes or at risk of developing this disease:
- myDESMOND Type 2 – for people with type 2 diabetes who want to learn more about their condition and how to manage it effectively;
- myDESMOND Prevention – for users who have been identified as having a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes and want to make lifestyle changes;
- myDESMOND Gestational – for women who have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes during pregnancy and want to learn how to control their blood glucose levels;
- myDESMOND Young Adults – for young adults aged 18-25 who have type 1 or type 2 diabetes and want to learn how to cope with the challenges and opportunities of living with this disease;
- myDESMOND Carers – for carers, family members, or friends of people with diabetes who want to learn more about the condition and how to support their loved ones.
Each program consists of various formats, such as short videos, articles, and interactive activities. It is possible to view different topics such as diet, physical activity, medication, blood glucose monitoring, stress management, and emotional well-being.
Additional options
There is a tracker that allows users to monitor their progress and achievements, such as weight, blood pressure, glucose, steps, and mood. It is possible to interact with others and share experiences. There is an option to receive expert advice from healthcare professionals, similar to Cancard.
