NHS Scotland Covid Status is an Android application that allows users to show confirmation of their health status. It is possible to travel abroad and enter into events or venues.
Status and identity
The utility provides users with a QR code that officials can scan to confirm their COVID-19 status. This tool applies facial recognition technology to verify persons’ identity using either their passports or driving licenses.
The utility contains details of clients’ vaccination records, which is also known as their COVID passports. Persons aged 12 or over can use the app to access their health status. For children under 12, their data can be requested by phoning the special helpline.
Security and traveling
There are advanced security measures to minimize any risk of fraud. Accessing the vaccination record through NHS is protected by login and password. Please note that the app only uses safe infrastructure and services from accredited organizations. The clients’ data is encrypted and held by NHS Scotland. Thus, personal information is only shared with trusted parties.
The app only shows the vaccination statuses and no other health information. It is worth noting that QR codes have an expiry date. Therefore, clients have to get their COVID status again, either via the utility or paper copy.
This software can be used to support international travel. If the users are residents of Scotland and have been vaccinated in an approved country, they can update their statuses to include this information. In addition, the app offers various tips and recommendations to avoid infection, just like in COVID Defence.
