ADMT is a Windows program developed by Microsoft that is intended for moving Active Directory modules from one virtual server to another. You are able to restructure or merge AD domains as well. Please note that this specialized network application is compatible only with Windows Server operating systems.
Main components
The Active Directory Migration Tool console allows users to manage the migration process via the command line interface. It is necessary to install the Agent module to every target machine in the network.
You can copy personal credentials with the help of the Password Export Server. Similar to
Whisper 32, all sensitive data is transferred in an encrypted form. It is possible to migrate group accounts, computers, apps and services. The SID history can be cloned as well.
How it works
Users are instructed to prepare the environment for migration by creating trusted relationships between the source and target domains. Both locations have to be at the appropriate functional level for successful data transfer.
After installing all necessary elements you can generate a security translation file that maps all SIDs in the destination directory. The final step is to move all selected accounts to the new location.
