BlackHole is a utility for capturing audio output from one source and sending it to another. There is no additional latency or quality loss in the process. Like in RipCast Streaming Audio Ripper, users can record the sound from a browser, media player or video game. Please note that the Windows version of BlackHole is still in development and not available for download.
Main purpose
This software works by integrating a virtual audio device into the system that can act as an input or output for any application on the computer. It lets you stream to any online platform like Twitch, YouTube or Discord. Additionally, there is an option to create complex routing setups with multiple audio sources.
Benefits and drawbacks
The program supports up to 256 separate channels. There is no graphical interface. Users can route the sound by selecting the new virtual audio device in the corresponding apps.
BlackHole is a free open source project. You are able to contribute to its development by suggesting features, reporting issues or submitting code on GitHub.
It is worth mentioning that sample rate conversion is not supported by this utility. Users may experience glitches and distortion if some of the connected audio devices do not have the same frequency.
