FreeOCR is a Windows optical character recognition software. It automatically detects text blocks in pictures and transforms them into editable form. Users can interact with a wide variety of TWAIN scanners and open multi page TIFF images. It is possible to recognize text in several popular languages such as English, Dutch, German, Finnish, French and Italian.
Import
This application offers you tools for processing text in pictures and converting it to searchable form. The main toolbar contains buttons for scanning a new image as well as for opening an existing photo or PDF document.
Conversion
After importing the file users can click the OCR button to begin recognizing the text. Options for processing only the current page or the whole document are available. There are tools for automatically cleaning up the text after conversion by fixing common recognition errors.
It is possible to zoom in and out of the workspace. Moreover, instruments for rotating and cropping the page are provided.
Export options
Finished text documents can be saved as DOC files for further editing in Microsoft Word or another similar app. Alternatively, there is an option to export scanned images to the JPG format.
