MarcEdit is a Windows program that allows you to organize digital library catalogs. There are instruments for converting MARC records to JSON, HTML, XML and many other text formats.
What is MARC
This set of machine-readable cataloging standards was developed to help libraries structurize the content. It contains information about the author and title as well as detailed classification records. Moreover, users are able to manually add the call number, shelf location and other physical object properties.
Included instruments
You can change the character encoding algorithm for converting older records to the modern format. There are tools for merging and splitting metadata files. It is possible to compare multiple records and automatically remove duplicate entries.
A delimited text translator module is included. Users can specify the source and target file locations. A drop-down menu for choosing the correct delimiter symbol is included.
The utility is fully compatible with MySQL. You are able to save MARC records as database files and edit them further in Microsoft Access or another similar application. Third-party plugins for expanding basic capabilities are supported.
