MilkyTracker is a program for Windows designed to create, edit and play audio modules in the MOD and XM formats.
Composition
Users can build songs from pattern-based sequences. A grid-style editor grants complete control over notes, instruments and effects. Each track is made up of multiple channels, it is possible to place notes, volume commands and effects there. The system gives musicians a unique way to layer complex compositions with mathematical precision.
The app focuses on editing two of the most popular tracker formats, MOD and XM. These builds are widely used in the demo scene and retro game development. Besides, there is a full-featured sample editor that allows you to record, trim, loop and manipulate raw audio data. Instruments can be created by assigning components to keyboard ranges with customizable envelopes.
Playback
As you compose, you are able to hear your changes instantly thanks to real-time playback and loop modes. Patterns and samples can be previewed independently or in sequence. On top of that, you can install SoundCloud to upload your new works on an independent platform where you have a chance to find your potential listeners and create a dedicated fanbase.
