OpenMediaVault is a Windows program for configuring a local file server. Users can backup important information, stream media files or run various applications via Docker containers. The web based administration interface contains multiple security and file management settings.
Installation
It is necessary to unpack the downloaded ISO archive to a USB Flash drive or burn the image to a blank optical disc. The next step is to boot the computer from the newly created media and follow the onscreen instructions to finish the setup process. Please note that all existing data on the target hard drive will be erased.
Advantages
The application supports a wide variety of file systems like ext4, BTRFS, XFS, and JFS. You can create software RAID arrays with different levels of redundancy, capacity and performance. Moreover, there is a plugin system for extending the NAS functionality with additional services and apps such as Plex, Nextcloud, Transmission and more.
Configuration
Users are able to change the hostname, date, time, network settings, power management policy and other parameters via the web interface. It is possible to manage physical disks and logical partitions as well.
