Modern portable devices are manufactured as complete technical systems that usually do not require the use of a computer of laptop for their maintenance. Operating systems like iOS and Android are capable of receiving and installing software updates, come with built-in troubleshooting tools, and in general, can perform almost any procedure a desktop computer can. This means a connection to the PC is only required when it is necessary to transfer files between the memory of the portable device and the internal storage of the computer (or vice versa). Even the most top-of-the-line smartphones and tablets may require additional drive capacity. This is especially the case with devices, owners of which capture footage in high-definition (2K, 4K) that takes up a lot of storage space. If you are using an Android mobile device, the connection may also be needed when you manually flash the firmware or get root access rights.

At the same time, owners of older smartphone models, dating back to the days when there was no such thing as a tablet, know well that it is impossible to update the firmware of Symbian mobile devices, without connecting to the computer. Of course, these operating systems are disappearing from the market, but this does not necessarily mean that they do not require maintenance.
