VICE is a Windows emulator for classic home computers such as Commodore 64, VIC 20 and PET. It imitates the behavior of the original machines, allowing users to run obsolete software and video games.
Emulation process
After starting the utility you can import new disk images via the File menu. There are four virtual drives for running multiple apps at the same time. It is possible to save and load system snapshots. This functionality is helpful for quickly rolling back the emulated OS to a previous memory state.
Supported peripheral types include disk drives, joysticks and printers. Users are able to interact with software that relies on these devices. VICE aims to provide accurate emulation of the original hardware.
Preferences
Like in PCem, you can adjust the default control scheme to better fit personal needs. There is an option to enable autofire mode on one or both connection ports. Additionally, flexible audio parameters like the buffer size, sample rate and output channel configuration are available.
The Display settings panel includes toggles for choosing the required render filter and border mode. Moreover, users are able to tune advanced color palette properties.
