Mechanical Desktop is a Windows utility that provides tools for designing detailed 3D objects. Users are able to create two dimensional drafts and parametric solid models.
Design process
After starting the program you can generate new surfaces and meshes to begin creating the model. It is possible to apply constraints, calculate dimensions and leave personal annotations. Instruments for defining the geometry and behavior of the object are included as well.
Please note that Mechanical Desktop is discontinued and no longer supported by the developer. The installation files are not available. There are modern solutions with similar functionality such as AutoCAD 360.
Advanced capabilities
Users can configure the relationships between individual components by specifying different types of mates like coincident, parallel, perpendicular, tangent, concentric, distance, angle or point to point. An option to automatically check for interferences, collisions, clearances and degrees of freedom between separate elements is provided as well.
